Celebrating Unity & Partnership on the Near-Eastside
[previous related story, June 22, 2008]
Yesterday, 6 churches celebrated the launch of a 'Family of Unity & Partnership' for the glory of God and the transformation of their near-eastside neighborhoods.

The morning service was hosted by Pastor Mike Bowling at Englewood Christian Church. Others in the partnership are Pastors Fredrick Boyd (Zion Unity), Eric Himelick (Victory Inner-City Ministries), Aaron Shelby (Brookside Community Church), Tom Eden (Woodruff Place Baptist) and Greg Bryant (Centenary Christian Church).

Pastor Boyd spoke from Acts 2, entitling his message, 'When the Church is at its best'. Admittedly, over the intervening history of the Church, it has had embarrassing times... when it was clearly not at its best. The church hosting this special launch service had at one time hosted a Ku Klux Klan meeting. But praise God, no traces remain -- these very different congregations mixed easily yesterday in the one name of Christ.

During the service, each of the pastors represented their congregations in affirming the following...
"We the following pastors come together for fellowship and the transformation of the Near Eastside Neighborhood by the power of God (and the blessing of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ). Being led by the Holy Spirit as gospel preachers, we now commit ourselves to this task. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith, and it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph. 2: 8-9. This salvation is both personal and corporate, (extends to the proclamation) proclaiming that by Christ all things are reconciled to God. Col. 1:20. We further believe that our God is a triune God, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, I John 5:7. Affirming (Based on our beliefs,) the Holy Scriptures also (commonly) known as the Word of God, and for the purpose of this great work, we now commit our congregations to fellowship (“marriage”) as brothers and sisters in Christ, and again for the glory of God and fulfillment of the scriptures. Acts 2:44."

IndyChristian Ed. Note... We praise God for you leaders there on the near-eastside as you model transformation of hearts, lives and neighborhoods.
