Monday's Report from "Faith, Hope & Love" week...

[from Merlin Gonzales, FHL coordinator]

All...

Blessings! 2 days down 5 to go.

We had 30 people this morning, great worship and sermon (I gave the sermon-Great Commandment).

We broke up into 5 groups, 1 for picking up trash, 2 for bottled water giveaways and 2 for business services. Our new partner in crime, Maria who read about us on the Indiana Christian News posted several flyers to businesses and even hung a banner on our van. She is dedicating her whole week in helping us.

We probably gave away 20 cases of water today, hot out there-105 heat index. A volunteer brought several bottled water inside WalMart and a Christian bookstore and offered free water to the cashiers. The employees can’t believe that someone from the outside the store would take time to go inside and give them water.

One group went to a construction site by 96th street to give cold water to the construction workers.

We had some neat testimonies afterwards:

-A delivery man (FedEx or UPS) was praying for cold water and one of our volunteers came and gave him a cold bottled water. He said that it was an answered prayer.

82nd street folks were amazed that we cleaned their businesses asking for nothing in return. I asked one volunteer why he stayed outside picking up trash for straight 3 hours in a 100-degree weather and he said that he would like to serve and give back to God because of some amazing things happening to him and his family lately.

Tomorrow: Our home base is the Vineyard Community Church. We will have 3 outreaches...

[Stay tuned tomorrow for reports from Tuesday's service-projects in the community.]

Hey, I applaud all of you who are being the hands and feet of Jesus during this week of Faith, Hope, and Love in Indy. I am entering here a copy of VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION from Olgen Williams of Christamore House on the near-west side. Everyone must get involved in saving the lives of our youth! It does touch us all - even in the suburbs and in suburban churches. Please, spread the word about this Town Hall Meeting and COME IN MASS!

"Community Solution Town Hall Meeting; To Stop the Violence:A City-Wide Call to Action What is the destiny of our community? It takes you to help? Indianapolis, Indiana…, Concerned Citizens, are hosting a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 6:30 pmAt Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1301 N. Good let This meeting will address the rising homicides and violence in our community, and seek SOLUTIONS through dialogue in prayer, and to hear of avenues and approaches the community can take to help put a stop to the senseless violence that ha e taken lives of our young and old. The trend of violence we are experiencing does not reflect the character of our great city. To date, more homicides have occurred in 2005 than in 2004. In addition, more than 10 homicides have occurred within the month of July. We are headed for record breaking numbers of youth homicides in one years time if we as a community do not work together to find more solutions to stopping the loss of our children lives. In order to bring “Peace in our streets”, it will take our youth, senior citizens, faith-based institutions, businesses, schools, City of Indianapolis, government bodies, etc, to strategically look at ways to provide additional opportunities to keep our youth from being at risk of losing their lives. Please support this outcry to preserve human life."
